Europe’s Charm

Overview

As you take in the Adriatic Sea breeze, wandering around Croatia’s cobblestone streets, watching life move in slow motion, you start falling in love with Croatia’s vibe. Relaxed, laidback and sunny almost throughout the year, Croatia is Europe’s latest rising star.

Located somewhat on the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Croatia has a distinct character that seamlessly blends the influences of both continents.  From the sprawling capital of Zagreb to the fortified town of Dubrovnik, walking around the cities and towns of Croatia feels like taking a stroll in history.

A thousand islands, sprawling mountains and miles of golden coastline, Croatia serves up an incredible treat for every kind of traveler.  You can dive into a sea of adventures, trek through numerous enchanting national parks or simply bask on the pebbly beaches.

Croatian food is a treat for your taste buds. The streets are filled with aromas of fresh seafood and meat bathed in olive oil sizzling on the grill.

So, as Croatia bowls you over with its breathtaking landscapes, tells you stories of a bygone era through its architecture and makes sure you soak up the sun, you wish you could stay a little longer in this gorgeous country.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Dubrovnik

Touchdown at Dubrovnik International Airport. Our on-ground coordinator will receive you and transfer you to your hotel.

We freshen up and head out for a tour of the old city of Dubrovnik. The waves of the Adriatic lap up against this heavily fortified town. As you walk around the town, you realise that Dubrovnik is no ordinary town. Complete with cobblestone streets, spectacular buildings and houses with red-tiled roofs, Dubrovnik is awe-inspiring.

In the evening, we head to a local restaurant for a delicious meal.

Day 02:  Walk from Gornji Obod to Strazisce Peak |Explore Dubrovnik’s Old Town.

We start the day with a hearty breakfast.

Today we take a walk from the picturesque town of Gornji Obod right up to the Strazisce Peak. We travel to the village of Gornji Obod. Upon arrival in Gornji Obod, we follow a meandering path up to the village of Velji Do. After a short break, we continue on the path to Strazisce Peak. The view from the top is nothing short of extraordinary. Here stands the commemorative cross in memory of the US aircraft which crashed while delivering aid in 1996. We return to Velji Do and then transfer back to Dubrovnik where we have the afternoon to enjoy the city.

Croatia has had a turbulent history up until 1992 but the determined Croats have re-build their country and preserved the rich cultural heritage across all cities. The cobblestoned streets of the old town of Dubrovnik, or Stari Grad, feature fountains, churches, palaces and museums – all built from the same light-colored stone. There are no motor vehicles in the city but at night, the streets come alive as locals and visitors take an early evening stroll along Stradun.

Day 03:  Explore Makarska |Transfer to Bol on the Island of Brac

Today, post a scrumptious breakfast, we head to Tucepi by bus. This scenic 3.5-hour journey from Dubrovnik to Tucepi is nothing short of spectacular.

Upon arrival in Tucepi, we begin our walk to Makarska, through the Biokovo Mountains. The Biokovo massif rises steeply above the Makarska Riviera in three spectacular shelves, making for a rewarding hike and amazing views. Makarska is a small lively town, tastefully restored in stone after a devastating earthquake in 1962. With a glistening coastline of 2 kms, Makarska offers a relaxing beach retreat.

We then head to the Island of Brac and transfer to Bol, by far the biggest draw on the island of Brac.

Overnight stay at the hotel in Bol.

Day 04: Explore Vidova Gora

Waking up to the Croatian sun, we start the day with a hearty breakfast.

We head to the hamlet of Gazul, and from here, we begin our walk to the peak of Vidova Gora (780m). Navigating through woodland for around 1.5 hrs., we gradually ascend 230 m to the summit of the highest point on Brac Island. The views from the top of Vidova Gora are spectacular as we can see all the way to the island of Hvar in the distance and the famous       500 m Zlatni Rat jutting out to sea in the foreground – this view is one that features on many postcards in Croatia so make sure to bring your camera! From here, our walk is downhill for around 2 hrs. towards the town of Bol. In the afternoon, you can make the most of the glorious beach of Zlatni Rat. You can take a walk along the shore, take a dip in the sea or simply bask in the sun.

Overnight stay at the hotel in Bol.

Day 05: Explore Split| Explore Krka National Park

Today, post a hearty breakfast, we catch the morning ferry to Split, Croatia’s second biggest city. The old city is compact and easily explored on foot. The most awe-inspiring attraction is Diocletian’s Roman Palace. The town as a whole is a lively and friendly place with a bustling café culture, so it is simply a nice place to stop, have a coffee and soak up the atmosphere.

Our next stop is Krka National Park. Here, we begin our walk to the Skradinski Buk waterfall, made up of a series of waterfalls dropping down in 17 dramatic steps. The area is accessed by wooden walkways and forest paths. If time permits, you can even take a dip in the waterfall. The area is also fantastic for wildlife – it is now an important wildlife sanctuary with several species endemic to the region or now extinct elsewhere in Europe. The walk will take around 2.5 hours and is all on easy paths. In the late afternoon, we transfer to Starigrad Paklenica.

Overnight stay at the hotel in Starigrad.

Day 06: Explore Paklenica National Park

We start the day with a hearty breakfast.

Today we head to the gorgeous Paklenica National Park. Paklenica is home to the two impressive canyons of Velika and Mala Paklenica, vertically cut into the mountain where climbers from all across Europe come to test their skills and conquer these vertical giants. In a relatively small area of the National Park, there are several unusual karst forms and caves and the area is extremely rich in flora and fauna. Our 7.5-hour walk starts with a short jeep ride up to Veliko Rujno (850m), and from here, we climb 300 m for fantastic views over the park. Our walk is then mostly downhill as we have 1150 m of descent through the quietest areas of the park, passing the unusual Mirila graves, the village of Tomici and finishing in the main canyon itself. In the afternoon, we return to Starigrad Paklenica.

Overnight stay at the hotel in Starigrad.

Day 07: Explore Paklenica National Park

We start the day with a scrumptious breakfast.

We head into the wilderness of Paklenica National Park. We walk to the saddle of Pod Jaginim Kukom up to Bojin Kuk. The Bojinac group is made up of a vast area of limestone, with the karst scenery forming towers of rock, furrowed limestone cliffs, caves and soft green meadows creating a contrast against the rock. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and a walker’s paradise. We walk for about 5-6 hours, returning to Starigrad Paklenica for the evening.

Overnight stay at the hotel in Starigrad.

Day 08: Departure from Dubrovnik
