Adventure Calling

Overview

As you fly 2,300 miles west of Chile towards a remote island that looks like a speck in the enormous Pacific Ocean, you can’t help but wonder how the original inhabitants got here in the first place. Easter Island or Rapa Nui, as the aboriginals named it, is probably the most isolated island in the world. Yet, the enigma surrounding this island draws in thousands of tourists from all over the world.

Across the island, the famed stone statues, Moai have stood in silence for thousands of years watching civilization unfurl. Standing before the Moai, your mind begins to wonder why, how and when these structures were built.

Beyond the intriguing Moai and the history of the island, a gorgeous golden coastline with turquoise waters awaits you. Here you can surf, swim and soak up the sun. If you want to take a break from the beach, you can explore the rolling plains and volcanoes of the island on your bike, on foot or on horseback.

The more time you spend here, the more this island grows on you. You can immerse yourself in the fascinating Rapa Nui culture, interact with the locals and get a taste of the local cuisine.

Every experience you have on the island leaves you speechless. So, as you wander around the island gazing in awe at the Moai or relax on the white sandy beach watching the sunset over the horizon, you are grateful to the original inhabitants for having sailed across the ocean to discover this little piece of paradise.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Rapa Nui | Excursion on Horseback

Touchdown at Rapa Nui's International Airport. Our on-ground coordinator will receive you and transfer you to your hotel.

Adventure beckons! So, you can freshen up and head out for your first excursion.

Today we explore the island on horseback. Once you are equipped with the appropriate gear, we begin the horseback ride in the Ahu Tahai area, an important ceremonial and archaeological site. Our next stop is Ahu Te Peu, a place nestled amidst fascinating landscapes. The tour also takes you to the caves of Ana Kakenga and Ana Te Pora.

Alternatively, we could start the excursion on Terevaka hill, a dormant volcano located at the northern end of Easter Island.

We will then head to Anakena beach, renowned for its warm, turquoise waters and coral sands with a spectacular view of Ahu Ature Huki and Nau Nau in the background.

Overnight stay at the beautiful Hotel in Easter Island.

Day 2: Walking Tour | Jeep Excursion

We start the day with a hearty breakfast.

Gear up for a walk through history! We begin our excursion on foot as we walk towards the south until we reach the area of Mataveri O'Tai and the Ana Kai Tangata cave. Here, ancient rock paintings transport you to the life and times of the intriguing Birdman Cult.  Till date, there are several theories on the purpose of the cave, given the multiple translations of its name. So, from a cannibal cave to a meeting place of the cult, no one can pinpoint the exact nature of activities that happened in this cave.

We then head to the base of Orongo village. The path to Orongo is lined with several endemic plants and lush greenery.

From the base, we hike through the eucalyptus forests and reach the enormous Rano Kau volcano. Standing atop the volcano, you can take in the gentle sea breeze, hear the Pacific waves crashing against the cliffs and marvel at the ecological diversity of this region.

Next on the list is an exciting jeep adventure. This excursion begins in the field of Ahu Tahai and goes along the west coast. This path takes us to the fascinating cave of Ana Kakenga.

We then head to Ana Te Pora, a beautiful volcanic formation.

Next on the list is Ahu Te Peu, one of the biggest ceremonial centres in the west coast.

We then head to one of the biggest caves on the island, Ana Te Pahu (or bananas caverns), blessed with abundant and varied vegetation.

We end our jeep excursion in the area of Ahu Akahanga, the burial place of the first king of Rapa Nui.

Overnight stay at the beautiful Hotel in Easter Island.

Day 03: Sea Adventure

You haven’t really experienced Easter Island if you haven’t sailed its seas or taken a dip in the ocean.

So, today, post breakfast we navigate along the coast facing Hanga Roa. From here, you can see the Tahai area and caverns opposite Mataveri that are visible only from the sea.

You will then reach the beautiful islets of Motu Nui, Motu Iti and Motu Kao Kao.

Next on the list is Scuba Diving. Instructions and initiations into scuba diving equipment and techniques will be conducted.

You are then ready to leap into the ocean and explore the rich marine biodiversity of the island.

After a day of adventures, we head back to the hotel.

Overnight stay at the beautiful Hotel in Easter Island.

Day 04: Departure from Easter Island

Today, post breakfast, we bid farewell to this spectacular island.

You will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight back home.
