A Voyage through Spain

Overview

As you gaze in wonder at the changing scenery of Southern Spain, you can’t help but be amazed by how fascinating rail journeys can be. Welcome aboard the spectacular Al Andalus train, the epitome of romantic travel.

Dating back to the 1930s, this train has been restored to its original splendor and every section is reminiscent of a bygone era filled with luxury and elegance. This rail journey cruises through Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Ronda and Cadiz, thus taking in a wide sweep of Southern Spain, while being transported through stunning scenery from the mountains of the Sierra Nevada to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Extremadura route takes one from Seville to Madrid, travelling through a lesser- known region of Spain.  With Andalucia in the north, Castille in the south and Portugal in the east, life in Extremadura is a concoction of multiple influences.

So, don’t miss out on an opportunity to experience Southern Spain basking in the glory of the Al Andalus.

Today, post a hearty breakfast, we will enjoy some free time in the charming maritime town of Huelva as we take a tour of the region’s main beaches and interesting streets.  This town has several well-preserved Roman remains that will take you back in time. Many coins bearing the name of the town 'Onuba' has been found here. This explains why modern inhabitants are called Onubenses in Spanish.

We return to the train to travel to Merida. There is a short stop at the Sierra de Aracena, where we visit the Museo del Jamón [the Ham Museum] and enjoy a ham tasting session as well as some of the products from the area.

We return to the train where lunch is served as we travel to Toledo.

Upon arrival in Toledo, we head for a city tour, that is located in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula. It has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, with a strong Roman, Jew, Christian, Arab influence and this is very beautifully manifested in the town’s architecture.
