A Treasure Trove of Experiences

Overview

As you gaze at the stunning snow-capped Mt. Ararat, you can’t help but wonder if the biblical Noah’s Ark is actually in the belly of this magnificent mountain. Fascinating legends and stories like these make Armenia a must-visit.

One of Europe’s most underrated and a lesser-known destination, Armenia is a treasure trove of experiences. A journey into this land can take you as further into history as 4000 BC. Ruled by several dynasties and empires, Armenia is dotted with structures and relics that represent its rich history and culture. Known as the world’s first Christian country, Armenia is adorned with intricately designed cathedrals and churches that tell stories of a bygone era.

All over Armenia, friendly faces of locals greet you animatedly, offering you freshly cooked Armenian delicacies. Armenians are fierce people who have been through turbulent times, but they warmly welcome you to their country with open arms.

As you travel further into the countryside, the soothing view of sprawling mountains is straight out of a fairytale. Here, you can go on hiking trails and explore the untouched landscapes of this vast country.

Without a doubt, Armenia is a spectacular mezclar of scenic beauty, rich history, heritage and culture and throughout your journey, you will be overwhelmed by a country that is easily Europe’s best-kept secret.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Armenia | Explore Yerevan

Arrive at Zvartnots International Airport. Our on-ground coordinator will receive you and transfer you to your hotel.

Once you have checked in and freshened up, we head out for the Yerevan City Tour.

Yerevan, one of the oldest inhabited capitals in the world, is also known as the Pink City as the buildings that cover the cityscape are built with a rosy volcanic rock called Tufa. Much like many cities of Eurasia, Yerevan blends the ancient and modern.

We start the tour with a visit to the Republic Square designed by Armenian architect Alexander Tamanyan between 1924 and 1950. This grand square houses the National Art Gallery, the History Museum, the Government House, the Central Post Office and the Ministry of Energy and Resources.

We then head to the spectacular Opera House followed by a visit to the Swan Lake.

Next on the list is the Cascade Monument where you can walk up a giant staircase to enjoy a beautiful view of Yerevan.

We then head to the memorial park and make a quick stop at the Mother Armenia Monument that overlooks the capital city.

Overnight stay at the 4 Star Royal Hotel, Yerevan.

Day 02: Explore Tsaghkadzor

We start the day with a hearty breakfast.

Today we head to the serene resort town of Tsaghkadzor (Gorge of Flowers). Nestled in the lush green mountains, this beautiful town is straight off a postcard. Here you can walk around the town and take in the spectacular scenery. You can also take the cable car and head right up to the Mount Teghenis and enjoy the view of this forested town.

Next on the list is the tranquil Lake Sevan, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world, located at an altitude of 1897 meters. Here, you can bask in the beautiful vista and marvel at the vast blue expanse of the lake.

As the sun sets, we head back to Yerevan.

Overnight stay at Royal Hotel, Yerevan.

Day 03: Explore Khor Virap & Noravank

Today, post a scrumptious breakfast, we head outside Yerevan towards the Turkish border to visit the enchanting Khor Virap and Noravank monasteries.

In the shadow of the magnificent Mt. Ararat, the Khor Virap Monastery has stood for centuries telling the tale of St. Gregor the Illuminator who was imprisoned here for spreading the message of Christianity in this region.

Next on the list is the Noravank Monastery. Dating back to the 13th century BC, this Armenian monastery has a fascinating story of survival from an attack by the Mongols.

We then head back to Yerevan.

Overnight stay at Royal Hotel, Yerevan.

Day 04: Explore Geghard, Garni & Vernissage

We start the day with a hearty breakfast.

Today, we continue our journey to explore the rich heritage of Armenia.

We start the tour with a visit to the Geghard Monastery dating back to the 4th Century.  This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a uniquely special place. Tucked away in the mountains, far from the city, this monastery was named after the holy lance that pierced Christ’s side at the crucifixion. The monastery was once home to this holy lance before it was moved to Echmiadzin.

Next on the list is the intriguing Garni Temple that was built in the 1st century by Armenian King Trdat. The last surviving Hellenistic temple in Armenia, it is dedicated to the Sun God, Mitra. The Garni temple resembles the Parthenon in appearance and gives you a glimpse into the Pagan religion.

We now head back to Yerevan to indulge in some shopping at the Vernissage flea market. Here, you can pick up national souvenirs, jewelry and traditional items that display the fine craftsmanship of Armenians. You can even head to the Dalma Garde Mall to continue with your shopping.

Overnight stay at Royal Hotel, Yerevan.

Day 05: Depart from Yerevan

With a heavy heart, it is now time to say goodbye to this mesmerizing country.

Post breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
